Defibrillators everywhere

Italy: Bill "Defibrillatori ovunque" (Defibrillators everywhere) awaits Senate approval

Defibrillators save lives

It is shocking that 65,000 people die of cardiac arrest in Italy every year. This corresponds to a rate of about 200 per day. Last year, on 30 July, a bill entitled "Defibrillators everywhere" was passed by the Chamber. This bill provided for the mandatory installation of semi-automatic and automatic defibrillators in facilities outside hospitals, starting with schools and universities, but also in public administrations, infrastructures, commuting facilities and more.

Due to current circumstances, the bill has been waiting for a year and is still blocked in the Senate. Led by the Italian Heart and Resuscitation Association "Lorenzo Greco Onlus", associations and health professionals wrote to the President of the Republic, the President of the Senate and the Chamber, the Prime Minister, the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Health, University and Labour, the President and the members of the Hygiene and Health Commission of the Senate. A letter to seek approval for the "Defibrillator Everywhere" Bill.

"Every day that passes is a day lost," says Giorgio Mulè, deputy and spokesman for the blue groups in the House and Senate, "any further delay means condemning death or avoiding saving hundreds of lives a day. There is no reason to wait any longer".
