Every minute counts in cardiac arrest - and often a defibrillator saves lives
The municipality of Horw has purchased additional defibrillators from in public spaces. As of now, 13 defibrillators AED (automated external defibrillator) are ready for use - the key link in the chain of survival for the entire population. When a person suffers a sudden circulatory arrest, the shock of electricity from a defibrillator is the only chance to restore the heart to a normal rhythm.
Defibrillators from resQshock are installed at the following locations:
- Horwerhalle (main entrance)
- Spitz school building (entrance to swimming hall)
- Seefeld sports facility (at the cloakroom building)
- Parish hall (main entrance)
- Bus stop Biregg (bus loop)
- Bus stop Wegscheide (direction Lucerne)
- Restaurant Schwendelberg (terrace)
- Horw Tennis Club (by the main entrance)
- Krämerstein entrance (gateway to the avenue)

Device for laypersons
The AED can be operated by laypersons via the device's voice instructions to bridge the time until trained rescue personnel arrive. The device gives clear, spoken instructions. It detects whether the electrodes are correctly attached, reads the ECG and makes the diagnosis. Only if there is a potentially fatal ventricular fibrillation does the device give the order to deliver the electric shock.
