Transdermal patches

Transdermal patches containing active ingredients sometimes have a metal framework (aluminium) that can conduct electric current. This can cause enormous heat to develop, which can lead to tissue damage and burns.

Remove medication patch from chest before applying AED electrodes.

AED electrodes should not be placed directly on a transdermal patch containing agents such as nitroglycerin, nicotine, analgesics, hormone replacement, antihypertensives, etc., because the patch may interfere with the flow of current between the electrodes and the heart and cause minor burns to the skin.
