Heart attack

If a coronary vessel almost or completely closes, the blood supply to the heart muscle is severely disrupted. This is called an acute coronary event (heart attack and or angina pectoris).

What do I do if someone has chest pain?

In case of severe pressure with constricting or stabbing pains in the chest (duration longer than 15 minutes), often combined with shortness of breath and fear of death, proceed as follows:

  • Alert the emergency number 144.
  • Position the heart attack patient with the upper body slightly raised.
  • Open tight dresses.
  • Ask another person to call in the ambulance while you stay with the person and reassure them.
