Crucial for survival in cardiovascular arrest are:
- The rapid alert via the emergency medical service 144
- Immediate start of resuscitation measures by the persons present, possibly with telephone support from the emergency medical services.
- The deployment of trained first responders located within a useful distance. These are always called out if they are likely to be faster than the rescue service.
- The widespread availability of defibrillators (AED)
- The emergency services
If all these factors are present, the rescue chain is complete and the chances for the patient are now favourable, at least with regard to the external factors.
