Christian Eriksen gets defibrillator implanted

The Danish Football Association informed on Thursday morning about further examination results and the following treatment steps for Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in the European Championship match against Finland. According to the report, the 29-year-old will be implanted with a defibrillator.

"After various heart examinations were carried out on Christian, it was decided that a defibrillator would be implanted in him," the statement said: "This device is necessary if arrhythmias have led to a circulatory arrest. Christian has accepted this solution."

What impact this decision will have on the continuation of the Inter Milan midfielder's career remained open. However, the insertion of an ICD defibrillator does not automatically mean that the Danish top star has to end his career. The Dutch national player Daley Blind or the German pole vaulter Katharina Bauer thus continue to pursue competitive sports.

Denmark's federation pointed out that the treatment method was recommended by "national and international specialists". It was also asked that the professional and his family be given the necessary rest and that their privacy be respected. Eriksen collapsed during the match against Finland and had to be resuscitated on the field.
